About the Author

I was born on 3 April 1958 in Dunedin, a city located on the South Island of New Zealand. My family background was non-Christian. After leaving school I attended the Otago Polytechnic Art School in order to become a political cartoonist.

However, by the grace of God and the witness of some Christian students I became a Christian about 2/3 through the course. The Lord began to change the direction of my life; I completed my course but did not pursue the idea of being a professional cartoonist. From the very start of my Christian walk the Lord gave me a great love for His Word. After experience as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Group leader, I felt that the Lord wanted me to train for Christian service.

In 1982 I enrolled at the Bible College of NZ in Auckland and completed a 3 year Diploma of Ministry. In Dec 1983 I married Tamsin Hames whom I had met at the College. Since that time I have been involved in many facets of Christian ministry, eg. working in a psychiatric hostel, manager of a cassette lending library, missionary Bible teacher in Papua New Guinea, community worker, founder and director of a charitable trust, pastor, and Bible school lecturer.
Tam was infertile when I married her, but the Lord has granted us five robust offspring. We all live in Whangarei, north of Auckland.
